After receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Houston, he worked in Washington D.C. for Congressman Jose E. Serrano. Clayton Simms graduated with a Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah. He sat on the Utah State Bar Commission as an Ex-Officio member and was co-vice chair of the Utah State Bar Criminal Law Section from 2003-2006.

Jesse M. Nix is an associate at Clayton Simms, LLC, practicing criminal defense. After working in both the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office and the Salt Lake City Prosecutor’s Office, Jesse decided defending people against unfair prosecution was better suited to his background.
Jesse graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Political Science and received his law degree from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah. While in law school, he was one of four students selected to serve on the school’s Trial Advocacy Team where he learned essential skills in trying cases to juries. He also served a judicial externship with the Honorable Kate Toomey of the Third District Court.
Jesse was a staff member of the S.J. Quinney College of Law Journal of Law & Family Studies; his article, “Unwholesome Activities in a Wholesome Place: Utah Teens Creating Pornography and the Establishment of Prosecutorial Guidelines,” is frequently mentioned in scholarly articles on sexting. He was also published in the Utah Law Review with his article on upholding paternity agreements in adoptions.
Jesse is a board member of the University of Utah Young Alumni Association and a member of the David K. Watkiss-Sutherland II Inn of Court. He is also active in community affairs and volunteers regularly on pro bono projects.
